Fostering Cameroon-Britain Relations Discussed
Par Emmanuel KENDEMEH, Cameroon Tribune, 10-10-2013
The new High Commissioner of Great Britain yesterday met Minister Joseph Dion Ngute.
A week after presenting the advance copies of his letters of credence to
the Minister of External Relations, Pierre Moukoko Mbonjo, the new High
Commissioner of Great Britain to Cameroon, Brian Olley was once more
yesterday, October 10, 2013 at the Ministry. He presented the advance
copies of his letters of credence on October 2, 2013.
The
courtesy visit to the ministry yesterday was to discuss with the
Minister Delegate at the Ministry of External Relations in charge of
Relations with the Commonwealth, Chief Joseph Dion Ngute. At the end of
the over one-hour discussions, the new British diplomat made no
declaration to the press. However, from every indication, the visit was
to enable the High Commissioner chart the way forward for fostering
Cameroon-Great Britain relations. After presenting advance copies of his
letters of credence that give him the green light to work while waiting
to present his letters of credence to the Head of State, President Paul
Biya, the familiarisation visit was necessary. The courtesy visit was
important as the two countries do not only have long standing good
bilateral relations but are also members of international organisations
such as the Commonwealth.
Brian Olley will work to foster relations which his predecessor, Bharat Joshi in an exclusive interview to Cameroon Tribune
last August disclosed, “We are about to enter a new phase of the
relationship which is symbolised by the UK-Cameroon Joint Commission. I
think that is absolutely right because for the first time, there would
be a formal vehicle to progress our relationship and establish where we
can better work together bilaterally.” Following Bharat Joshi’s
declaration, Brian Olley has the basics for success
