Cameroon-Italy: Consultations To Strengthen Cooperation Ties

The Central Director for Sub-Saharan African Countries at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation had talks at the Ministry of External Relations on July 3, 2018.

(Cameroon Tribune) Talks on further strengthening the bilateral relations between Cameroon and Italy took place at the Ministry of External Relations on July 3, 2018. The visiting Central Director for the Sub-Saharan African Countries at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Italy, Guiseppe Mistrella had discussions with the Minister Delegate at Cameroon’s Ministry of External Relations in charge of Relations with the Commonwealth, Felix Mbayu. After the in-camera discussions, the Italian official told the press it was part of the permanent consultations to seek ways of strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries. He said the relations got a boost at the helm with the exchange visits between the Presidents of the two countries. On the basis of the impetus from the visits, the discussions at MINREX focused on commerce, political, social and cultural cooperation.
Felix Mbayu and Guiseppe Mistrella also talked about security in Africa with the Italian official stating Cameroon’s position in ensuring stability. Discussions also focused on the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2019 that Cameroon will host.
Guiseppe Mistrella told journalists that in the company of the Italian Ambassador to Cameroon, he had discussions with officials of PICCINI, the Italian company that is building the Olembe Stadium in Yaounde in preparation for the continental football event of 2019.
He disclosed that the officials gave details on the evolution of the work and assured that the work will be completed in time. The Italian government official thanked the Cameroon government for the trust. While stating that football constitutes big connection between the two countries, he wished Cameroon success in preparations to host AFCON 2019.
