The multi-billion plant that has capacity to produce more than 3,000 chicken a day is also receiving government financial backing of FCFA 500 million.
The Minister of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development, MINEPAT, Louis Paul Motaze, on Saturday October 15 commissioned a poultry slaughtering and packaging plant in Bafang, West Region. Speaking at the occasion, the Chairman of the company’s Board of Governors, Christophe Eken, insisted that “…only chicken raised following certain standards will be accepted by the plant.” He went on to specify that packaging of chicken will be done in conformity with international standards and norms.
On his part, Minister Motaze expressed hope that the project will help curb rural exodus among the young. He urged local poultry farmers to ensure that the supply of chicken is not interrupted in order not to disappoint the plant’s customers.
Known as the Cameroon Poultry Products Plant, SPAC, it has a production capacity of more than 3,000 chicken per hour. With construction cost of FCFA 5 billion, the plant is also receiving government’s financial support of FCFA 500 million.
According to project promoters, the objectives include promoting poultry farming among local people, increasing national poultry production, curbing poverty, high cost of living, unemployment, rural exodus while making available quality, affordable chicken to Cameroonian consumers.
