International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) is Developing a Programme For Youth

Kanayos F. Nwanze, President of International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD)
Cameroon Tribune: What balance sheet do you make of your four-day working visit to Cameroon?
Kanayos F. Nwanze: It is very positive. The reason why we selectedCameroon is because of the potential it has. We now see an intensive effort by public authorities to invest in agriculture. Government has in front of it enough potential to either produce enough food to have jobs for the youth or disaster in its hands. The future is in the hands of the youth. I am happy that this language of agriculture as a business, youth in agriculture, providing them the capacities and creating access to financial resources, to new techniques of agriculture, is what is being spoken here now. I believe that if this momentum is maintained, Cameroon stands a good chance of not only resolving its food crisis but also to produce enough to supply to the rest of the sub-region. We will continue to work with government to support programmes that are developed by the government and the people of Cameroon.
