SEVEN TIPS FOR GREAT SUPERVISORS

Supervising others is a special challenge that can help you reach new career and lifestyle goals, but being a successful supervisor is not easy as some people imagine.  It’s a combination of personal characteristics (positive attitude, confidence, patience, and so on) and the application of skills and techniques (delegating, developing your team, restoring relations, and so on).


 Three factors will require that you be a different kind of person on the job:
  1. You will be expected to lead where in the past you may have been a peer member of the team;
  2. Your role will put you in the position of buffer between your supervisor and those you supervise;
  3. You will need to communicate your company’s mission.
So you should:
       Be Warm and friendly but establish your authority;
       Do not play favourites. Treat each person with respect;
       Do what you can to make everyone’s job better;
       Teach your employees new skills that will make their jobs easier;
       Seek assistance from your manager if you hit troubled waters. Ask for suggestions. Ask for suggestions. Be a good listener;
       Give your employees credit when credit is due;
       Do not permit former peer and co-workers to intimidate you into a wishy-washy management style.
All this should be accepted as a challenge that will help you grow in to a stronger person.
And, of course, the challenges bring special rewards.
